Tell your representatives how you feel

Charlie Holder, then council member and now Mayor of Newport voted to approve Flock cameras without questioning their usefulness or potential privacy concerns. Since then, he has also voted to add a Flock drone to Newport's surveillance repertoire. Liberty and privacy are clearly not at the forefront of this Mayor's policies.

Councilor for the Second Ward, Lynn Underwood voted both for Flock ALPR Cameras and for the addition of a Flock Drone. She asked no questions about the technology, how it could be used, how it could be abused, and if it was worth selling out the privacy of her fellow Newporters.

As Mayor of Newport during the August 14th, 2024 city council meeting, Xay voted to approve Flock ALPR cameras, and like his colleagues did so without even asking the most basic questions about the technology or showing the least bit of concern for his constituents' rights. Now, as a councilor at-large Xay has also voted to approve Flock drones in Newport.

Councilor at-large Jeane Marie, who last year was fined for campaign finance violations, also voted to violate the privacy of her fellow Newporters. She didn't question whether it was okay to log the movements of her neighbors when not even accused or suspected of crimes.

At-large councilor Stephanie Smythe voted to extend the city's partnership and data sharing with Flock by voting to approve of a $375k Flock drone. She is currently seeking another term on the council, and would benefit from hearing from her constituents on WHY a vote for Flock means a vote against her.

First Ward Councilor Ellen Pinnock also voted to extend the city's partnership with Flock by approving the city's purchase of a $375k drone. She has stated she wants to, " bring the voices of students, renters, working families, longtime residents, and communities too often left out of the conversation," and now is the time to let her hear your voice as she seeks another term.

David Carlin III, the third ward councilor, also voted in favor of having a surveillance drone hovering over our city. Hovering over Mr. Carlin are multiple unpaid fines for campaign finance violations. Is it government oversight for thee but not for me Mr. Carlin?
